Short bio

I am from Porto Alegre, Brazil, since 1965. I got the electrical engineering degree in 1987 from Pontifícia Universidade Católica do Rio Grande do Sul. After the BS degree I worked for two data communication companies. I got a Monbusho Scholaship, to research image processing at Tsukuba University in Japan. Back from Japan in 1995 I started my Master at Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS), Brazil. In 1997 I concluded my Master thesis "Ultrasonic Image Acquisition and Processing for Ultrasonic Inspection". I went to Japan again in 1998 to get the doctor degree at Muroran Institute of Technology. I concluded my doctor thesis "Segmentation and Decomposition Techniques Applied to Blood Cell Images" and came back to Brazil in 2002. Since then, I have been working as associated researcher and professor in the Signal and Image Processing Lab. (LaPSI). For the last 3 years my research project is a archtecture to a H.264 decoder. My research interests include are image segmentation, object modeling and recognition, fuzzy Logic and artificial neural networks.
